MASTERCLASS FOR MUSHO! (article first published : 2006-01-5)

As part of the Musho! one and two person theatre festival, a Master Class presented by Art United from Holland for actors and directors will be held at the Stable Theatre on January 9 from 14h00 to 17h00.

Musho! is the first Durban International One Person and Two Person theatre festival. Hosted by PANSA KZN (Performing Arts Network of SA), it will be held jointly at the Kwasuka and Catalina theatres from January 7 to 22.

“Musho!” is Zulu for an enthusiastic praise response, something similar to “Bravo!” It will showcase the most innovative, interesting, articulate, sophisticated and cutting edge theatre available currently and will be a real feast of contemporary and acclaimed works. Seventeen productions have been chosen by the Musho panel – one production from Holland, five from throughout SA and 11 from KZN.

Opening the festival is Die Kleur van Droes (Colour Me Evil – performed in English) which hails from Amersterdam in the Netherlands and will be brought to the Festival by the Royal Netherlands Embassy about the first Dutch black minister who preached that slavery is beneficial for the Black Man and justifies his teachings with passages from the Bible.

It is the Dutch company who will host the Master Class for all interested actors and directors on January 9. The workshop is geared for interested performers, drama students, directors and theatre companies.

Musho! is grateful for the financial support of key partners: the Performing Arts Network of SA (PANSA KZN Chapter); the KwaZulu Natal Arts and Culture Council; the National Arts Council; the Royal Netherlands Embassy, the National Lottery Distribution Fund and Durban Africa – the city’s proactive marketing body.
