SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARVES (article first published : 2005-10-24)

Following the success of last year’s “postage-stamp pantomime”, Cinderella, the Kwasuka Theatre will once again be full to the brim with magic and laughter with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves which is due to run from December 1 to 31.

This thrilling, magical adventure is guaranteed to delight young and old, with gorgeous sets and costumes, toe-tapping music and a star-studded cast. Snow White is presented by the same team that created Cinderella. Multi-award winning theatre maestro Greg King will design the sets, and acclaimed director Steven Stead will once again write and direct the production.

Heading the cast as Snow White is one of Durban’s favourite singer-actresses, Carol Trench, who will be remembered for her memorable performances in Nunsense and Table Manners. Her evil nemesis, the Wicked Queen Malicia is played with customary relish and style by Darren King, who delighted audiences last year with his wacky Tall Ugly Sister in Cinderella.

Others in cast include Marion Loudon, as the handsome Prince Valiant, Snow White’s sweetheart; Bryan Hiles as the bumbling huntsman, Tom Trueshot, and Olivia Borgen as his kooky side-kick, Polly Pumpkinseed, the put-upon kitchen maid. Ntando Cele plays Prince Valiant’s best friend, the dashing ex-pirate Zanzibar Jack. Completing the cast list are seven mystery performers, guaranteed to delight you!

Snow White runs from December 1 to 31 with evening performances Tuesday to Saturday at 19h00 (Sundays at 16h00). Matinees on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 14h30. While there is no performance on Christmas Day, there will be a Boxing Day matinee at 14h30. All seating is reserved and bookings can be made at Computicket. R65 and (R50 pensioners and children under 12).
