PLAYHOUSE NEW STAGES (article first published : 2005-10-17)

From November 4 to 7, the Playhouse Company showcases two cutting edge works from the New South Africa in its latest season of New Stages.

ThuleSizwe, described as “a brave new musical” directed by Thulabona Mzizi, highlights themes that crucially affect one and all today. Through music and dance, it also reflects a country whose future is full of hope and dreams. The exciting new show draws on the talent of locally based artists around Cato Ridge. ThuleSizwe runs in the Playhouse Drama on November 5 and 6.

Tastes Like Strawberries, a dark comedy directed by Septula Sebogodi, illustrates that “what goes around comes around”. The action centres on the turmoil of Majozi after he murders his beloved wife, Jwah. Haunted by Jwah, we see him transformed from a romantic, loving and charming young husband into a sad, tormented, old man. This is up for viewing in the Loft on November 4 and 5.

Tickets cost R20 per show. Book through Computicket or 031 369 9555.
