BOSMAN SHORT STORIES (article first published : 2005-10-6)

Two rooinekke who took the Grahamstown Festival by storm this year will give one final show on the South Coast before they head for The Groot Marico Bosman centenary in October!

Brace yourself for some witty entertainment at the hands of two elegant, sassy and sometimes veldskoen-clad rooi-nekke: Barbie Meyer and Lorna Burd.

Audiences will be taken on a comic journey through Herman Charles Bosmanís short stories. Sometimes light-hearted, sometimes thought-provoking, the girls will give you a taste of this fascinating South African authorís works as well as an inside look at his extraordinary and colourful life.

Herman Charles Bosman (1905-1951) was a South African writer and journalist who became famous for capturing the rhythms of backveld Afrikaans speech even though he wrote in English. He is widely regarded as the greatest short story writer to come out of South Africa. His books are some of the finest in the field of South-African literature.

The performance will be staged at the Margate Art Museum on October19 at 18h00. Take picnic baskets, something to drink and enjoy a candlelit supper at the venue before the show.

Tickets R40 and booking essential on 039 315 0821, 039 312 8392 or 082 818 4552.
