BLACK MAMBA FOR HEX (article first published : 2005-10-6)

After its Durban run at Kwasuka Theatre, Black Mamba moves to the Hexagon Theatre on the Pietermaritzburg campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal from October 24 to 29.

Black Mamba is hardworking and talented Durban actor/writers Ben Voss and John van de Ruitís new two-hander sketch-based comedy which they have co-written with Greig Coetzee. The show is directed by Murray McGibbon. (See review on these pages)

Whereas Green Mamba was delicious sketch-based comedy, Black Mamba takes the genre one step further and adds an uncompromising sharpness to the sketches - making them more funny, bitingly clever and socially astute as well. Highlights of Black Mamba include a 12-minute illustrated History of South Africa which spans 600 years of conquering and re-conquering; a brilliant quiz show called "The Missing Link"; and a savage "Grilling of the Minister of Health".
