COMEDY INVASION TOUR (article first published : 2005-08-22)

The South African Comedy Production agency UpnUnderComedy.com took four South African stand-ups to the International Edinburgh Fringe this year for a sold-out run and now brings them home with two international comedians for the Comedy Invasion at the Playhouse from September 1 to 3.

The East Coast Radio International Comedy Invasion tour will feature British, Australian and South African international acts and three of South Africa's brightest and talented stand-up comedians.

Junior Simpson is from the UK and has performed all over the world, including Australia, the Far East, Canada and Europe. An established and respected comedian, he has made many TV appearances ranging from Ali-G, The Jonathan Ross show, Live from Jongleurs and appeared in the film Love Actually.

Australian Mickey-D has performed in festivals and tours throughout the world. After storming the National finals of Australia's premier comedy competition in 1998, Mickey took his warm, cheeky and energetic brand of comedy to charm further audiences at the Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Velocity Boy, his debut show at the Adelaide Fringe, was named one of the picks of the fringe, cementing his place in the inaugural Comedy Zone team at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Since his successes in Australia, Mickey has come abroad to perform in the last three Edinburgh Fringe Festivals along with appearances in New York, Denver, Chicago and right across the UK.

Hot off the Edinburgh Fringe festival South African Glen Bo has been based in London and working the UK and international circuit for the last three years. Glen has toured the UK extensively, and on the bill of this year’s Edinburgh Fringe show Free South African comedians, he is making waves across the sea for South African comedy. He is also a columnist for the London newspaper, The South African Times. Currently the only Saffa stand-up to tour to Bahrain in the Middle East he is billed as cheeky, confident and infectiously funny.

Chris Forrest's face is easily recognisable form the Sasol Ad campaign where he played "Coach Joe". Chris is an established and talented regular on the South African heavyweight comedy circuit. His witty and cynical one-line humour is thought provoking and to the point. Totally nerdish and unflappable, his Drew Carey- looks and slowed-up delivery have ensured that audiences take to him enthusiastically. Chris is also hot off the Edinburgh Fringe where he appeared in Free South African Comedians.

Riaad Moosa is a Muslim South African stand-up comedian. He is also a qualified orthopaedic surgeon. He headlined the CCC's Edinburgh Fringe show in 2003 and is considered one of the countries leading young comedians.

Also appearing on the bill is Malcolm F and from the Cape Paul Snodgrass, both talented acts also returning from Edinburgh and the Free South African Comedians show.

The tour promoted by UpnUnderComedy.com Productions, the Northern Hemisphere's only Saffa comedy promoters.

Book at Computicket.
