TWO SHOWS ONE SET (article first published : 2005-07-23)

Kwasuka Theatre is to hold an innovative season of two plays: Art and Boston Marriage. The productions, both presented on a set designed by Greg King, will run in tandem from August 18 to September 11.

Artis a witty and intelligent comedy written in French by Yasmina Reza and translated into English by Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons). Itís about a man who buys a modern painting at a large sum only to find it receives a lukewarm response from his closest friends. The play features Rajesh Gopie, direct from his appearance in Hamlet at the National Arts Festival in Cape Town and the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, alongside Darren King and Michael Gritten. Art opens on August 19 to run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 20h00 and Sunday at 18h00 until September 11.

Boston Marriage written by Davie Mamet (Olianna) is a droll comedy of very bad manners set in a Victorian drawing room. Directed by Steven Stead with costumes from the State Theatre, it features Clare Mortimer, Belinda Henwood and Janna Ramos Violante. The show opens on August 18 with performances on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 20h00 and Sundays at 15h00 until September 11.

Tickets R65 throughout for both productions. Book at Computicket.
