ADVENTURES OF JABULANI JO RETURNS (article first published : 2005-07-10)

This winter holiday the youth of Durban are in for a treat when they can again join Jabulani Jo on his adventures at the Catalina Theatre at Wilsonís Wharf from July 10 to 17.

Straight from a hectic schedule of performances at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, Josette Eales and Janna RamosĖViolante promise to bring childrenís imagination to life with The Adventures of Jabulani Jo (See review on these pages, possibly in Drama Archives by now).

Josette and Janna have written a delightful tale that will take children on an exploration through the animal kingdom for just under an hour. They will introduce children to Jabulani Jo, a monkey who doesnít want to be a monkey, as he wanders through the jungle encountering loads of adventures with the other residents of the jungle.

Josette and Janna have written, performed and workshopped the piece, saying that the story is a journey that even parents will enjoy. The moral of the story is that being who you are is the best you can be!

Durban audiences may recognise these two upcoming Durban talents from recent performances in Dangerous Liaisons, Cinderella and various UKZN productions. Josette is currently one of the two administration interns working for the Performing Arts Network of SA, running the Durban office and is on the committee of the Blue Monday Platform initiative for young theatre performers.

The Adventures of Jabulani Jo runs at Catalina Theatre, Wilsonís Wharf, from July 10 to 17 at 11h00. Tickets R30 (R20 concessions). Bookings through Thandeka or Janice on 031 305-6889.
