MAKING A SPLASH (article first published : 2000-05-7)

Durban writer-actor-producer Aldo Brincatís street theatre production, Woza Waste Water, was recently staged in Washington DC, courtesy of the World Bank. Originally commissioned in January 1999 by Durban Metro Waste Water to fill a need for educational street theatre, the project, managed by Renaissance Projects, was performed in local townships for five months. It proved so successful that the run was extended to 14 months.

During a recent visit to the Water Utility Partnersí Conference at Durbanís ICC, officials from the World Bank were impressed by this piece of street theatre which features Dudu Mgadi, Zeph Sibongile and Zamo Mdletshe and educates on how to take care of waste water systems. The World Bank officials thereafter organised for the group to stage its production at an international water management conference in Washington.

For more information on educational theatre, call Aldo on 082 8231 602.
