THE ADVENTURES OF JABULANI JOE (article first published : 2005-03-23)

This Easter holiday, youngsters are in for a treat when they can join Jabulani Joe on his adventures at the Catalina Theatre at Wilson’s Wharf on the Esplanade.

Each day The Adventures of Jabulani Joe promises to bring children’s imagination to life. Local performers, Josette Eales and Janna Ramos–Violante have written a wonderful tale that will take children on an exploration through the animal kingdom for just under an hour.

The show introduces children to Jabulani Joe, a monkey who doesn’t want to be a monkey, as he wonders through the jungle encountering loads of adventures with the other residents of the jungle. Children will be welcomed into this fun-filled, physical theatre and ensuring that each and everyone’s imagination is used.

Josette and Janna have written, performed and workshopped this piece. They promise that the story is a journey that even parents will enjoy - the moral being that who you are is the best you can be!

Durban audiences may recognise these two upcoming Durban talents from recent performances in Dangerous Liaisons, Cinderella and various UKZN productions. Josette is currently one of the two administration interns working for the Performing Arts Network of SA, running the Durban office and is on the committee of the Blue Monday Platform initiative for young theatre performers.

The Adventures of Jabulani Joe runs from March 24 to April 3 at the Catalina Theatre, Wilson’s Wharf. Performances are at 10h00.

Tickets R30 can be booked through Thandeka on 031 305 6889.
