TRIBUTE TO KEN JACKSON (article first published : 2005-02-15)

Murray McGibbon, former artistic director for drama for the Playhouse Company remembers the late actor:

“Ken Jackson worked for me several times and I deeply regret his passing.

Our first encounter was in Romeo and Juliet in which Ken played Lord Montague. Although it was a small part, Ken threw himself lock, stock and barrel into the role and I remember clearly his passion for the production which in its day, caused quite a few raised eyebrows.

Next we worked on Equus together; Ken’s performance as Frank Strang was memorable. To my mind he was the best Frank Strang I have ever seen, and that includes the West End and Broadway. He simply captured Frank perfectly.

My most endearing memories of him however are as Brasset in Charley’s Aunt which was the last really big show I directed for The Playhouse Company. Ken was a much loved member of the cast, whose impeccable timing, sense of humor and delicious dry wit is all too missing from rehearsal halls these days.

Ken was of the ‘old’ school. As a young director (then!) I valued his wisdom and often cynical advice. He will be very sorely missed, personally and professionally.”
