COLABORART EIGHT 8 (article first published : 2005-02-11)

Artists are invited to exhibit at (or attend) the quarterly ColaborArt exhibition which will take place on February 19 at the Margate Art Museum.

“ColaborArt is about concept driven, non-commercial, experimental Art,” explains Mark Meyer of ColarobArt. “It's new, it's raw, it's unframed and untamed! This is the place to show your stuff.”

ColarobArt provides the opportunity to all artists from all arts disciplines to present their latest, previously unexhibited, individual, colaborartive or crossover piece(s) in an arts-friendly, non-critical environment.

Closing date for entries to the quarterly ColaborArt Exhibition close on February 12.

Although total freedom of expression is encouraged, the certain criteria apply to anyone taking part in this exhibition.

Motivation for any artwork should not be commercial and therefore no work will be for sale on the evening of the exhibition, but may be sold privately after the event. Works should of an exploratory nature in terms of materials, styles, concepts, genres etc. and even possibly test the boundaries between two or more art forms. Works may be of a collaborative nature.

Proposals should be handed/faxed/emailed to ColaborArt as soon as possible so that the programme can be drawn up.

As the exhibit is un-curated, the space is allocated on a first come, first served basis. Set up time is from 12h00 to 16h00 on February 19. The venue will then be closed until 18h00 when the reading of the Manifesto will open the event.

Artists are encouraged to discuss their works but this is not imperative. Performance pieces should not exceed 10 minutes in duration. Musicians may submit two songs only.

Artists must provide their own easels and/or equipment. Works may be fixed to the walls in the activities room using nails, drawing pins or prestick. Easels may be used in the main museum, as no wall-hanging space is available. Pieces should preferably be recent works, or be previously un-exhibited.

For proposal forms, contact Mark on 082 818 4552 or Clare on 082 336 8133 or tel/fax 039 315 0821 or 039 315 7225 or e-mail: avante@venturenent.co.za

The exhibition will be opened at the Margate Art Museum at 18h00 sharp on February 19.
