CINDERELLA ON M-NET (article first published : 2005-01-1)

Janice Honeyman's Cinderella, currently on at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, has been described as "the most popular, the most romantic and the most spectacular of all pantomimes". M-Net will give viewers the chance to share the pantomime magic on January 2 at 15h00.

Cinderella's glittering carriage will arrive as if from nowhere. The snow will fall on the climb to Prince Charming's magnificent Castle. The Fairy Godmother will create the incomparable magic of pantomime. And Cinderella will go to the ball, escorted by South African Lipizzaner Stallions Favory Bavardi and Siglavy Angelo!

Throwing a spanner in the works is Barbie, well known as "every little girl's best friend", who makes her South African stage debut in a special guest appearance. But will Prince Charming's eyes stray? Will Dandini (finally) find love ever after? Will Buttons have his loyalties divided? Bianca Le Grange of Idols fame, is Cinderella, while Shaleen Surtie-Richards - best known for her roles in Egoli - waves her wand as Cinderella's Fairy Godmother.

Comedian Marc Lottering, meanwhile, falls over his outrageous frocks and heels as Flossie Flatulina, one of Cinder's heartless ugly stepsisters. David Dennis, veteran of stage productions like Rocky Horror Show, is Fanny Flemerina, the other ugly stepsister. James Borthwick is Baron Piet Platsak, while Renos Nicos Spanoudes, Neels Clasen and Rowan Cloete fill the remaining roles.

This M-Net exclusive televised production will bring the magic of this uniquely South African version of Cinderella to the screens of viewers who have missed out on getting their hands on fast-selling tickets for the live production.
