STABLE THEATRE PROGRAMMES (article first published : 2004-04-27)

The Stable Theatre will launch its projects for the year 2004/5 on Workers Day – May 1. Part of the launch is a feast of activities leading to the formal function in the evening. One of the activities is a Car Wash Bash, which will take place from 10h00 to 16h00!

“The main aim is to attract the younger audience to the Stable Theatre,” says Vukile Mtshali, the Stable Theatre’s manager. ”We want to show them that in centres like this, it’s where the fun and entertainment is at.” Some 12 young ladies from the Outrage Concepts promotions house dressed in funky hot pants will wash cars inside the Stable Theatre’s safe and secured premises. DJ Siyanda and DJ Staxx, well-known DJs in clubs and social gatherings in Durban, will entertain car owners while their vehicles are being given special treatment.

A formal launch taking place at 18h30 will outline the centre’s programmes for 2004 and the kind of entertainment to be found at the Stable Theatre. Highlights will be short snippets of the stage productions taking place this year such as Bhambatha ka Mancinza, Impi Yomdabu, Maluju Zulu, God Tigers Don't Cry and Pride of the Zulu.

Musical entertainment will be provided by top KZN maskandi musicians, such as Osenzeni and Vumile no Jikelele. Other entertainers will include the Vincent Trio, Mpumalanga White Birds, Izazi Zama Ngwane Abavuseleli, Isigqi Se Mbokodo and Twilight Reggae.

Well-known Durban’s playwright and director Jerry Pooe is the artistic director for the evening’s line-up and set design is by Irek Karamon.

There is no charge for those without cars and car owners will pay R25 per car for a full house. For the evening launch, tickets are now available free at the Stable Theatre. There will be no tickets after 12h00 on May 1 (remember first come first served!) More information from the Stable Theatre on 031 309 2513.
