OLIVER! AUDITIONS (article first published : 2004-04-11)

Talented high school learners between the ages of 13 and 18 are needed for the Unilever Bestfoods Robertsons (UBR) Young Performers musical production of Lionel Bartís Oliver!. The show will run at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from July 5 to 25.

Following the last three yearís successful Young Performers Shows, Curtain Up, One Voice and Grease the search is on yet again for talented young girls and boys.

The cast must demonstrate leadership skills, initiative and commitment as well as performing talent. They will be gaining valuable experience by working with professionals in the field and in a professional theatre environment, learning quality skills and having loads of fun.

The show is sponsored by Unilever Bestfoods Robertsons and will be backed by a team of professionals. Production Manager is Linda Van Der Veen of Snazzi Events and the show will be directed by Themi Venturas, with choreography by David Gouldie, vocal direction by Charon Williams-Ros and musical direction by Evan Roberts.

Auditions will be held on April 17 at the Playhouse complex in Room no. 503 (enter through the stage door in Acutt Street).

Those who would like to audition must contact Snazzi Events on 031 303 4589 between 08h00 and 16h00 to book an audition time before April 14. School Group bookings are also welcome.

It is not necessary to prepare anything in advance. The criteria for the successful participants will be that they must be available to rehearse on weekends during term time and perform during the July school holidays. The cast will also need to find their own way to and from rehearsals each day, plus be available for the three week run at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

There will also be two morning performances during the final week that will be at a special ticket price for school group bookings only. Schools interested in block bookings on either July 22 or 23 at 10h30 tickets at R15, should contact 031 303 4589.
