SHALL WE DANCE (article first published : 2005-08-21)

The ever-popular Shall We Dance Ballroom and Latin American showcase presents its glorious annual dance extravaganza in the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from September 1 to 4.

Presented by the South African Dance Teachers’ Association and supported by BASA (Business and Arts South Africa), the 13th Shall We Dance once more promises to delight audiences with its carefully-chosen eclectic mix of quality dance – all with an underlying ballroom and Latin American theme.

Compères and special guest soloists are much-loved singer from Gauteng, Timothy Moloi, and Gino Veronie from Durban. The showcase is once more directed and produced by Neville Letard and Caryl Cusens, acknowledged as pillars of the dance community.

Shall We Dance features the best of ballroom, Latin American, tap, contemporary, ballet and modern … even belly-dancing! Visiting dancers include current SA Professional Latin American and Show Dance Champions, Ryno and Svetlana; SA professional Latin American Champions, Kagiso and Mary, and SA Ballroom Champions, Adonia and Letshepile.

Local dancers include Linda Vargas Spanish Dancing; the Manormani Govender Dance School, the Lynnlea dancers from Pietermaritzburg and Mark Wilson’s dancers. In total almost 100 dancers will be on stage.

Performances take place at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on September 1 and 2 at 19h30; September 3 at 15h00 and 19h30 and September 4 at 18h00. Book at Computicket or on 011 340 8000.
