ST ANNEíS THEATRE FESTIVAL 2005 (article first published : 2005-08-15)

The St Anneís Theatre Festival 2005 is now in full swing at this prestigious Hilton-based school.

The Interhouse Theatre Festival is produced by the St Anne's Drama and Theatre Production Departments and performed by St Anne's pupils, featuring The St Anne's Dance Theatre Company. Performances take place on August 16 at 18h00 and August 17 at 19h00 (adjudication by Jay Pather) in The Theatre at St Anne's College. Tickets R25.

Having thrown out the traditional one act play competition, the grade 11 Speech and Drama learners rise to the challenge of creating their own short pieces of theatre, incorporating any style or form of theatre other than that of a scripted scene. Most of them choose to work experimentally which enables them to apply the range of practical skills they learn in the classroom to a specific project, and is in fitting with the IEB matric practical syllabus for Drama. The Interhouse Theatre Festival also gives the girls entrepreneurial skills in learning how to create, produce, direct, organize and administrate a theatre production from beginning to end. The more experimental format also allows for more girls in the houses to be involved and so too learn from the experience. The Interhouse Theatre Festival is always engaging and entertaining, and the theatrical variety that is achieved by having six short pieces on the programme only adds to its appeal.

Also appearing on the festival will be The Church Of The Ascension Hilton Artists Exhibition in The Foyer of St Anne's College.

Lovebytes presented by Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre and directed by Jay Pather is the festivalís major production. There will be performances in The Theatre - St Anne's College on August 15 and 16 at 20h00 when tickets will be R50 (R40 concessions)

Booking on 033 343 3300. More information from Lynn Chemaly on 033 343 1609 or e-mail: lchemaly@stannes.co.za
