TAP DOGS RETURN! (article first published : 2005-05-30)

Vodacom in association with KFM 94.5, Algoa FM, OFM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, East Coast Radio and Big Concerts have announced the return of the internationally acclaimed sensation that took the world, and South Africa, by storm!

Dein Perry’s Tap Dogs 10th Anniversary tour wouldn’t be complete without the inclusion of one of their most successful territories.

The Australian troupe head south for their most extensive SA tour yet! Kicking off in Cape Town, they will be move on to Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg and Durban. After performing to sold-out shows countrywide in 2002 (performing to 54,000 people) and 2003 (performing to 57,000 people), the rubber wielding, sweat drenched line-up of macho movers return in August.

The winner of 11 International awards, TAP Dogs is choreographed by distinguished two-time Olivier Award-winning choreographer Dein Perry, and the high-speed industrial tap is performed on a broken slanted stage comprising scaffolding, ladders and ropes designed uniquely by director Nigel Triffit. The sound, mostly driven by the diverse rhythms of sharp crisp tapping, featuring an eclectic range of music including hip-hop, funk, techno and even heavy metal audio accompany, was composed by Andrew Wilkie.

Tap Dogs is an interactive experience, reinventing styles and bonding with the audience. A spell-binding show with exuberance, energy and enthusiasm. They are perfectly percussive, electrically energizing, and unabashedly manly. (See review in Dance archives)

TAP Dogs perform in Durban In association with East Coast Radio at Sibaya Casino from September 13 to 18. Ticket prices (exclusive of service charges) are R150; R170 and R190.
