AFRICAN FOOTPRINT EXTENDED (article first published : 2005-04-27)

Mid-December last year, the smash-hit dance programme, African Footprint opened the new iZulu Theatre at Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom just north of Umhlanga. It is currently in the fifth month of its run and has been extended by another three months until July 31, 2005.

“We are currently playing to fantastic houses in the iZulu Theatre,” says Melville Vogel, GM of Sibaya, “Some 47,000 people have seen African Footprint already and, because we have a constant stream of local, national and international visitors who frequent the property, there is a huge appetite for the show, so we have taken a decision to extend the production.

“If the show continues to attract the audiences until July, and we are confident that it will, it may well go down as one Durban’s longest running productions in one theatre over the past two decades,” he adds. “This is a wonderful feather in the caps of the performers as well as the production and marketing teams, who have put in tireless efforts to ensure the international standards of the show are maintained.”

The show’s producer, Richard Loring, is justly proud of his production: “African Footprint holds the record for being South Africa’s longest running musical production, as it played for four years in Gauteng prior to opening at the iZulu Theatre here in KwaZulu-Natal. So we are really pleased that the show has appealed to both the South African and international visitors which has resulted in great audiences and a demand for tickets.”African Footprint has performances from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 20h00 and Sundays at 15h00.
