AKRAM KHAN WORKSHOP (article first published : 2005-02-13)

The FNB Dance Umbrella 2005 offers dancers - and anyone else who wants to try! - an opportunity to attend workshops facilitated by British choreographer Akram Khan and Cape Verde artists Rozy Timas and Elisabeth Fernandez.

The first workshop facilitated by Akram Khan will be on February 24 at The Dance Factory from 10h00 to 12h00. Akram Khan is considered one of the most exciting young choreographers to have hit the dance scene in Europe in the past few years. He will work with contemporary and Eastern dance and his relationship with these dance forms.

The FNB Dance Umbrella in association with the French Institute of South Africa is hosting the second workshop facilitated by the Raiz de Polon Company from Cape Verde. The two choreographers, Rozy Timas and Elisabeth Fernandez were runners up for the African Indian Ocean Choreography Competition in Madagascar in 2003. They will facilitate a workshop in contemporary dance focusing on the style they work with. The workshop takes place at The Dance Factory on March 8 from 10h00 to 12h00.

Those wishing to take part should book a place by calling 011 482 5179. Further information on 011 482 4140, 011 482 5179/482 5615 or e-mail danceumbrella@artslink.co.za
