DURBAN AUDITIONS: CATS (article first published : 2005-02-7)

Representatives from Pieter Toerien Productions and The Really Useful Group will come to Durban on February 15 to audition for the musical Cats.

There is a possibility that Cats may return to South Africa to end its world tour. Many of the original cast members will want to play this, the final season, if it happens. But the production company is looking for dancers with good singing voices for some roles. There are also a small number of roles for singers with limited dance training.

Since the company must meet the creative performance qualities that this show is recognised for internationally, audition candidates will need to demonstrate an above-average talent, be in good health and maintain a high level of fitness throughout this very vigorous production.

Auditions will take place in Durban from 10h00 on February 15 at the Playhouse rehearsal venue A1. Entrance is through the Playhouse company head office – 29 Acutt Street.

There are also auditions taking place in Johannesburg from 10h00 on February 13 at Pieter Toerien’s Alhambra Theatre, Harrow Road, Doornfontein, and in Cape Town from 10h00 on February 21, venue to be advised.

All auditionees must available for the whole day and be prepared to wait. They should bring along sheet music for an up-tempo number and a ballad. They may be required to sing.

To register auditionees must email or fax a biography and current photograph for initial consideration to: Ande Gibson, Fax 021 438 1998 or e-mail ande@theatreonthebay.co.za

Should the season in South Africa happen, rehearsals will commence in July 2005 with performances through to December 2005.
