JABULANI MUSICAL IN US (article first published : 2005-02-6)

Performed by the cast of K-CAP Alive Kids of Bayede Shaka The Spear Is Born fame, the musical Jabulani – SA – Celebrate! is scripted and directed by award-winning and internationally acclaimed artistic director; Edmund Mhlongo.

Jabulani SA was first performed at Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre theatre in April 2004 and then was invited to tour Poland in May, which was then followed by a tour of the Bahamas in August.

The musical left South Africa on January 28, 2005, for a tour of the United States of America until March 8 as part of the celebrations of The Black History Month in that country. On its return to South Africa, Jabulani SA will undertake a national SA before embarking on a London tour in late June 2005.

The show is a music and dance celebration of achievements of SA’s democracy and positive things that have happened since April 27, 1994. It is a story of South Africans as survivors.

Jabulani - Celebrate South Africa simply says: Be friendly and positive about our land. Be very excited about our country. Exhibit goodwill and positivism. Speak of large amount of work yet to be done to rebuild and fully transform our country for the benefit of all people of all cultures and backgrounds. Speak of our commitment to do it together,” says Edmund Mhlongo. “Through music and dance be happy about what we have already achieved ... together.”
