CREATE SA (article first published : 2005-01-19)

CREATE SA is the creative industries skills development programme of the Media Advertising, Publishing, Printing and Packaging Sector Education and Training Authority (MAPPP SETA), undertaken in partnership with the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) and funded by the Department of Labour’s National Skills Fund.

The following sub-sectors of the creative industries are covered by CreateSA’s remit: Visual Arts and Craft; Design; Film, Video and Multimedia Production; Music; Performing Arts; Heritage; Technical Production Services for events, and Arts and Culture Management.

The learnership will cover National Certificate in Arts and Culture Management, NQF Level: 5, Credits: 146 (minimum). The purpose of this qualification is for learners to be able to manage the various functions of an Arts and Culture enterprise's output. The National Certificate in Arts and Culture Management (NQF Level 5) qualification is generic across the various fields within the Arts and Culture industry. The qualification will create larger pool of competent people, which is a growing need in the industry. Apart from the competencies gained, other advantages of the qualification to learners include recognition, mobility, standardisation, broad competency base across areas (some of which are generic).

Qualifying learners are capable of communicating in variety of ways to manage a Arts and Culture enterprise; controlling and maintaining administrative and financial procedures; supervising projects and processes of the Arts and Culture enterprise; positioning an Arts and Culture enterprise in an optimal location; managing human resources to promote an optimal level of productivity, strategising and plan for the sustainability and growth of an Arts and Culture enterprise, and supporting human resource management compassionately and /or in accordance with legislation. The Qualification comprises the following Modules (Unit Standard Titles): Project Management; Strategy; Information Technology, and Human Resources.

The purpose of this qualification is for learners to be able to manage the various functions of an Arts and Culture enterprise’s output, (generic management competencies). The duration of the learnership is January to October, 2005.

The following procedure and timeframes will be adhered to for recruitment of learners for the NQF5 National Certificate in Arts and Culture Management:

Placement Assessments: January 20 to 21, 2005. These will be scored, selection committee to make final decision, candidates notified of results on January 24 and 25.

Successful candidates will then receive and complete a Learner Registration Form and Learnership Agreement Document, which must be returned to Karen Isaacs and Associates on January 24 and 26.

Employers who take on (host) a Learner for the duration of the learnership (February 1- October 31, 2005) will need to complete the Learner Contract of Employment between January 24 and 27. (Meetings will be arranged with these Employers to discuss the rights and duties of Employers of a Learner and to provide such employers with the applicable legislative documentation). All completed documents will be checked and forwarded to CreateSA on January 28. Successful learners will be invited to a briefing session in February: Date to be confirmed.
