SELFISH GIANT AUDITIONS (article first published : 2004-10-6)

Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company (FFFDC) presents a real treat for children this holiday season – The Selfish Giant will be performed at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from December 9 to 30.

Oscar Wilde’s charming, classic story The Selfish Giant is about a very selfish giant who banished all little children from his beautiful garden. Spring arrives but in the garden of the giant, it is still winter. The icy Madame Snow and Frost remain in the garden and they invite the North Wind and Hail to come and stay with them. One morning the giant sees a most wonderful sight…..

This delightful story was adapted by Ashley Killar for NAPAC Dance Company but is being re-conceived and choreographed by David Gouldie and Quinton Ribbonaar for this spectacular new production which will contain all the elements necessary for magical Festive Season entertainment.

FFFDC is looking for two groups of children:

Auditions for children (male and female) aged between 7 and 10 years of age to be involved in the production. No previous ballet training is necessary but a sense of fun and acting ability is required. These auditions will be held at 11h30 on October 9 at FFFDC studios in Mayville.

FFFDC is also looking for young dancers who have already passed their Grade 5 Classical Ballet exam to be part of this exciting production. Auditions will be held for these dancers at 13h30 on October 9, also at the FFFDC studios.

All auditionees need to be available for rehearsals which will start on October 17 and be available for the performance period in December. Rehearsals will be mainly on the weekends with a few rehearsals during the week after school.

For any queries, or to book a space for the audition, contact the FFFDC office on 031 209 0142 (office hours only).
