LINE DANCERS EXPO (article first published : 2004-06-1)

The dance floor is set for the attempt at breaking the world record for international simultaneous line dance at Gateway’s Expo Explore on June 5 at 15h00 sharp.

Line dancers from all over the world will begin shaking their stuff at exactly the same time. And if they all do it for five minutes non-stop, they could just get their names into the Guinness Book of Records. Billy Ray Cyrus with his hit, Achy Breaky Heart made line dancing famous. Support for the dance and the event has come from North America, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Hong Kong.

The number of participants at each location will be tallied and submitted to the organisers in the United Kingdom who make the final count, which they will submit to the Guinness headquarters. In line with its strict rules the event will be overseen by Dianne Kohler Barnard MP and Sue Gerber who is the principal of Queensburg Girls High.

Get to Gateway early to catch the rehearsals at 14h00 and 14h30 before the big event. All the profits from the entries will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation for research into Myasthenia Gravis disease. The foundation will also have representatives present to count the number of entrants.
