NEW DANCE AUDITION SHOW 2004 (article first published : 2003-10-18)

Following Idols and Popstars, comes the new craze for the year 2004/2005. Dancin’

Dancers in all styles are invited to audition for South Africa’s television spectacular in mid 2004, the dance show Dancin’ which aims to uplift South Africa’s youth.

Dancin’ will be staged nationally to search for the best "Dancer" titleholder. Categories range from Kwaito, Mpantsula, Rave and Hip-Hop toTap; Contemporary Style; Dance Sport-Ballroom; Ballet or Jazz and Aerobics – Jive. The competition is open to all South Africans in junior (12 – 16) and senior (16 – 24) categories.

Regional shows will be staged during during the first half of 2004 in all the major centres and the winners of the regional Dancin’ shows will fly to Johannesburg or Cape Town. The public will choose the winner during a live televised gala spectacular in September 2004.

The process of selecting the country’s first Dancin’ show dancer will begin in earnest in April 2004, when the director, crew, judges and presenters travel the country to find the most dynamic dancer with the moves, stage presence and pizzazz of a true showman.

The auditions will take place in all nine provinces. Watch press for audition details and venues! Organiser Eugene du Plessis is well known for the presentation of spectacular entertainment and events such as the Opening the Wild Coast Casino and directing (with Gwen Brisco and Bob Andersen from Las Vegas) shows like Dancin’ Wild, Wild Frenzy and Champagne Follies.

Dancers will be required to prepare a 1 min 30 sec dance routine of their choice and they must take along their own CD or cassette tape.
