DANÇAR O QUE É NOSSO (article first published : 2003-04-15)

From August 2 to 31, Danças na Cidade organises its 7th International Meeting Dançar o que é Nosso, a meeting of dancers and choreographers dedicated to professional training and intercultural exchange.

“This event is not a mere workshop programme,” say the organisers. “It is designed to bring together dance professionals from all over the world (with a special effort towards colleagues from Africa and from the Mediterranean Region) and have them work, invent and live together for a month. Next to the actual workshops, we organise informal presentations of work by individual participants, a seminar on Cultural Diversity and Interculturalism, visits to performances and exhibitions, joint dinners, studio time to work and investigate, feedback, etc. “

The programme includes four-hour daily workshops by leading choreographers such as South Africa’s Boyzie Cekwana and Vera Mantero from Portugal. Other workshop leaders are Elizabeth Corbett (USA/Belgium); Mugiyono Kasido (Indonesia); Nik Haffner (Germany); Olga de Soto (Spain/Belgium) and Salia Sanou (Ivory Coast).

Other attractions are a seminar on Cultural Diversity

A maximum of 34 participants will be selected for the Meeting Dançar o que é Nosso, through a simple application procedure.

This Encontro aims at perfecting working methods in performance and creation, and requires full commitment by all of the participants during the four weeks of its duration. It is aimed at professional dancers and choreographers with a thorough dance education or professional experience in performance and/or creation.

Applications should include relevant details as well as a motivation letter, explaining why and how a participation in the Meeting would have a positive effect on their actual artistic development. Also included should be a curriculum vitae containing information about training, professional career as dancer and/or choreographer and knowledge of languages (active and passive) as well as a recent photograph: portrait or passport type.

Deadline for entries is May 16. The selection of participants will be made by the staff of Danças na Cidade and all applicants will receive a response by May 31. This is not a public call, but a private initiative: Danças na CidadeDanças na Cidade
