SHUTTLE 02 FINAL REPORT (article first published : 2002-10-25)

Shuttle 02 - the cultural exchange project between Denmark and South Africa has come to an end. A full report including a number of articles by several of the project co-ordinators is now available.

Shuttle 02 has been an innovative dance and music development programme initiated in South Africa with South African and Danish partners. The programme was a continuation of a regional cultural co-operation, Shuttle 99, between the Nordic countries and South Africa.

The South African partners in Shuttle 02 included: FNB Vita Dance Umbrella (Johannesburg); Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience (Durban); Moving into Dance Mophatong (Johannesburg); Dance Factory (Johannesburg); Drama Department, Wits University; The Cultural Helpdesk; the Centre for Creative Arts (University of Natal, Durban); Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company; South African Roadies Association; Awesome Africa Music Festival; PANSA; as well as a long list of individual experts, choreographers and musicians.

A number of final activities have included collaborations with the Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience in Durban and two landmark national seminars: the African Dance Seminar held in June in Johannesburg and the Dance History Research and Development Project, both of which have issued individual reports.

Whilst a number of projects have come to a natural end, others are still developing and there is solid potential to attract further funding from South African or Danish support systems.

The Danish Center for Culture and Development (DCCD), an independent body under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now looking into how it best can support the Danish-South African collaboration in the future.

A limited number of the final Shuttle reports will be available on request from The Cultural Helpdesk/Dance Desk at 011 834 75 75 or e-mail dancedesk@artslink.co.za For further enquiries please contact: DCCD at info@dccd.dk or +45 3317 9700 or visit www.shuttle.dccd.dk
