SA BALLET THEATRE AT HILTON (article first published : 2002-05-17)

The Pretoria based South African Ballet Theatre (SABT) will be present a programme of favourite ballet pieces entitled Ballet Highlights to the Hilton College Theatre on May 21.

The programme includes the exciting Black Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake (in which the Black Swan performs 32 fouttés), the famous Rose Adage from Sleeping Beauty, the romantic Les Sylphides pas de deux, the Dying Swan variation made famous by Anna Pavlova and the Grand Pas de Deux from Sleeping Beauty.

Also featured will be other dance forms such as Jayesperi Moopen's Awakening the Spirit, a beautiful integration of classical Indian dance with ballet, and Timothy le Roux's contemporary work, The Time It Takes To Do This, both of which were premiéred by SABT in March at the 2002 FNB Vita Dance Umbrella in Johannesburg. Another interesting piece will be The Glow Worm Idyll, a ballet choreographed by SABT's Fiona Budd, a Durban-trained member of the company.

Principal castings for the programme will showcase the strengths of this young company with the talents of Tanja Graafland, Angela Malan, Kimbrian Bergh, Karen Beukes, Iain MacDonald, Burnise Silvius, Andries Weidemann, Anya Carstens and Manfred Hain heading the excellent cast. (Angela Malan has been seen recently on national television ”partnered” by cricketer Allan Donald in the Standard Bank cricket advert.)

Performances take place at the Hilton College Theatre on May 21 at 19h30. Tickets R72 booked through 033 343-0126.
