ALICE IN ZULULAND (article first published : 2001-12-2)

Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company's glittering new dance fantasy Alice in Zululand promises to be full of surprises to delight for audiences of all ages

Presented in association with The Playhouse Company, this topical new version of the Lewis Carroll classic is geared both for the young and the young at heart and offers a fun adventure of dance, song and magical effects.

Sets and costumes will be designed by South Africa's premier stage designer Andrew Botha, well-known for his impressive designs for productions such as Queen at the Opera. Choreography is by FFFDCís award-winning resident choreographer David Gouldie and set to music by Philipp Maier with songs by Evan Roberts. The production is directed by Mark Hawkins and lit by young Danish lighting wizard Lars Sorensen.

Alice is played by Carol Trench, recently seen in Letís Misbehave .. Again at the Royal Hotelís Backstage, and the White Rabbit is danced by Durban dance personality Lliane Loots. Members of the Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company include Angela Lardant, Nicole McCreedy, Cheryl Burger, Louise Fraquet, Ondine Bello (Phenduka Dance Company), Vusi Thabethe, Ebrahim Medell and David Gouldie.

The show features numerous fun dance roles for children and these will be filled by members of FFFDCís development project Cato Manor Vibe!!! which is sponsored by The Royal Netherlands Embassy.

Other sponsors supporting this exciting world premiere dance staging include Production Projects, Pro-Print, Business and Arts South Africa, The National Arts Council and the Danish Centre for Cultural Development.
