AMBUYA'S GIFT (article first published : 2001-10-22)

The Natal University African Music Ensemble will be performing a vibrant Dance Drama entitled Ambuya's Gift. The performance which includes a cast of 19, will explore the use of African dance within the tradition of story telling. Ambuya's Gift is choreographed by visiting Zimbabwean lecturer Clayton Mboneli Ndlovu.

Ndlovu who is currently a music lecturer at the Zimbabwe College of music, has spent the past few weeks working with students of the African Music Project at the NU School of Music. Ambuya's Gift will showcase what the students have learnt during this time. Zimbabwean musical instruments, mbira dzavadzimu, hoshu and nyungangunga will also be played by members of the African Music Ensemble.

The concert begins at 12h15 at Howard College Theatre. Entrance is free and the public is welcome.
