LECOQ WORKSHOPS (article first published : 2001-09-25)

Following the huge response from previous Lecoq Workshops, Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company have announced an intensive workshop for professional performers, directors and writers. It will explore many of the Lecoq techniques in finding what is essential through mime, movement, rhythm and space.

‘Creating Everything From Nothing’ is designed to give professionals in the industry more tools to enrich their work. We will be focusing on a physical approach to creating space, characters, dramatic image, group dynamic and emotional truth.

The Workshop will be lead by James Cuningham and Helen Iskander, both of whom studied at the Jacques Lecoq International School of Mime and Movement in Paris for two years.

James has performed with various theatre companies in the UK, France, Spain, Canada and South Africa. He is a specialist in movement and physical theatre and highly experienced in devised and workshopped theatre styles.

Helen (UK) spent three years training with John Wright before going to the Lecoq School. Since then she has been involved in numerous physical theatre shows and has lead many workshops in mime, movement and mask work.

The workshop will run from October 1 to 4 from 09h30 to 13h30 (including the Lecoq warm-up and acrobatics) for four consecutive days and participants are encouraged to stay for the whole course. The venue will be the Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Co. Studios in Mayville and the fee is R650 per person.

To reserve a place contact Helen or James on 082 657-4187.
