BALLROOM BLITZ (article first published : 2001-06-20)

On July 21, The Playhouse Company presents a stylish antidote to the July chills with A Winter’s Ballroom Blitz!

Doors to the Playhouse Grand Foyer open at 19h00, when the audience gets to strut their stuff on stage for half an hour as a build up to this sumptuous ballroom and Latin American showcase. At 19h30 the show begins with a glittering programme of waltz, Rumba, tango, Cha Cha, Fox Trot, and more! Directed by well-known local arts personality and ballroom dancer, Big-Boy Patrick Zungu, this promises to be a night to remember.

Main attractions will be Durban couples Zandile Gumede and Terrence Mfeka - recently seen in Shall We Dance? at the Playhouse - and Zandile Lushaba and Sonwabo Magula while juniors Simpiwe Makhaye and Andile Mlaba will demonstration how "the young ones" can dance! There’s also a guest appearance by Northern Province wheelchair-dancers Julia Chauke and Amigo Makhubele from the Letaba School in Tzaneen. A Winter’s Ballroom Blitz also features Pietermaritzburg couple Laurel Oettlé and Russell Comrie, who train at the Come Dancing Studio.

The explosive and vibrant Paso Doble, the sexy and sultry Samba and the ever-popular jive are also featured in A Winter’s Ballroom Blitz as well as a lesson in waltz and tango by compére Jabu Ngidi. The show ends off with DJ’s S’bu Myeza and Muzi Mabuza turning up the heat and inviting the audience onto the dance floor.

Tickets R30 and early booking is essential. Book at TicketWeb, credit card bookings on (031) 369-9444. Block bookings from Eubulus on (031) 369-9498. There will be complimentary drinks and snacks and lucky audience members stand a chance of winning lucky draw prizes.
