CHASING TALES (article first published : 2000-12-28)

Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company’s production of Romeo and Juliet draws to a close on Saturday in the Playhouse Drama and if you haven’t seen it yet, don’t miss it (see review in Dance).

But the company will have no time to relax as they open on January 3 with a return season of their smash hit children's show Chasing Tales at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Morning performances will be at 11h00 Mondays to Saturdays until January 13.

This enchanting and lively production has become a firm favourite with Durban audiences who never seem to tire of following the tale of a Fairy Godmother who helps a Sangoma who has been locked in the library find the ingredients to make a magic “escape spell”. Out of the leaves of the books come Snow White, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, the Wolf and the Three Bears.

Chasing Tales is the creation of FFFDC’s resident choreographer David Gouldie and director Mark Hawkins – both of whom choreographed Romeo and Juliet. The show is designed by Greg King who wrote, directed and designed the Playhouse festive season production of Catch Khalulu. Norraine Swanby and Pinky Mtshali return to their roles of the Fairy Godmother and the Sangoma.

Book at Computicket or at the door. More details from FFFDC on (031) 209-0142 during office hours.
