DURBAN CHAMPIONS (article first published : 2000-11-8)

Durban has clocked up a new world champion in the form of schoolgirl Danielle da Silva, who, with Caron-Jayne (CJ) Miller (another multi-medal winner), returned to her home city this week with the Junior World Champion title for modern dance under her belt.

Da Silva, Miller and another Durbanite, Tae Polly who is currently studying in the USA, competed in the world championships of the performing arts in Hollywood, Los Angeles earlier this month.

Da Silva, who is a Maris Stella pupil, won six gold medals and one silver in the under 12 category, while Durban Girls High’s Miller, who is currently the South African overall dancer in the 13-17 category, returned with three golds, one silver and a bronze. Polly, who is completing her studies in Miami, Florida, won one gold and two silvers.

The girls train at the Durban Dance Unlimited studios with Megan Lamb and Ann-Marie Jacobs.
