THE MESSIAH PROJECT (article first published : 2007-10-25)

The Messiah Project is a dance theatre collaboration featuring dancers from Flatfoot Training Company, Cato Manor Vibe!!, KwaMashu School of Dance, Project Dudlu Ntombi, Project Hheshe Nsizwa and Kitsona’s Kids.

“Framing the work with the uplifting and glorious music of George Handel, The Messiah Project asks both dancers and audience to look to the ‘messiah’ inside all of us and to consider what, inside our hearts and spirits, saves us – for the choreographers and the dancers this has clearly been the ability to dance,” says Lliane Loots, artistic director of Flatfoot. “This work is finally a great and glorious celebration of our ability to dance together and understand the transformative power of theatre.”

Choreography is by Lliane Loots in collaboration with Thulile Bhengu, Sifiso Khumalo, Magesh Ngcobo, Vusi Makanya and Jabu Siphika. Overall assistance is provided by Musa Hlatshwayo and Super Cele.

The Messiah Project takes place at 14h30 on November 4 in the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Entrance is free (although donations towards Flatfoot’s projects are always welcome!). The coffee bar will be open. More information from Claudette Wagner on 031 260 3134 or email: wagnerc1@ukzn.ac.za
