INDUMEZULU YOMDANSO 2006 (article first published : 2006-12-14)

After an intense yet fun year of contemporary dance training and choreography, Cato Manor Vibe!!'s Indumezulu Yomdanso, will showcase some of KwaZulu Natal's up-and-coming dance talent at the Dorothy Nyembe Hall in Cato Crest on December 16 from 13h30.

Indumezulu Yomdanso's programme will feature vibrant curtain-raiser performances by CMV!! teacher Minette de Klerk and Cato Manor Vibe!!'s Baby Ballerinas; KwaMashu's Latino Spinners, Clermont's Kitsona's Kids, and some of Cato Manor's finest young talent. The main item of this year's programme is an exuberant and colourful performance piece that celebrates the seven world heritage sites of South Africa through a fusion of African contemporary dance, spoken word, live music and puppetry. This work is collaboratively choreographed by Super Cele, Musa Hlatshwayo, Mdu Mtshali and David Gouldie, who will also direct the performance.

This performance also features guest vocalists and Durban's former Pop Idols stars, Nompumelelo Zondi and Clive Gumede. Both these vocalists proved to be among the country's top vocally talented during the past Pop Idols Competitions. Zondi was among the top 10 of 2006's final cut while Gumede entertained audiences up to the top 30 of Pop Idols 2004.

This fun-filled family day will conclude the 7th year of this youth dance training project. Classes will resume on January 20, 2007, and will continue to offer the young aspiring artisans of Cato Manor and Durban's surrounding areas a platform for self and skills development in the field of the performing arts. Classes are held each Saturday between 10h00 and 15h00 at Westridge High School.

Admission to Indumezulu Yomdanso is free. Admission into Cato Manor Vibe!! is also free of charge. For more information about the day's event or about Cato Manor Vibe!! please contact Peter Taylor on 083 544 1939 or Super Cele on 076 570 8419.Cato Manor Vibe!! is a project initiated by Fantastic Flying Fish Dance Company and is supported by The Royal Netherlands Embassy.
