THE RHYTHM OF LIFE (article first published : 2006-03-19)

The Rhythm of Life is a dance education experience by Flatfoot Dance Company, choreographed by Flatfoot’s award-winning artistic director, Lliane Loots.

It is workshopped by the equally illustrious dancers, drummers and singers (some having just returned from performing in African Footprints in Germany) and will have three performances at the end of March as well as being available for performances at schools.

“The entertaining and vibrant 40-minute piece of dance theatre explores the nature of rhythm and the way that it determines our lives - from the heartbeat in the womb, to the toyi-toyi of our political history, to the gumboot rhythms from the mines, to the romantic duet that offers a heat beat of another kind,” Lliane explains.

The Rhythm of Life is the perfect way to introduce learners to contemporary dance and Afrofusion dance theatre. The work is aimed at Grade’s 8 to 12 and is especially relevant to Drama and English learners in grade 10, 11 and 12 while being equally accessible to lower grades.

Bookings are open for performances at schools from March 20 to 26 and from April 1 to 14.

There will be performances at The Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on March 29 and 30 at 18h30 with an extra performance on March 30 at 12h30. Booking is essential through Clare Craighead on 082 875 6065 or e-mail danger77@absamail.co.za

Flatfoot Dance Company is generously supported by the National Arts Council.
