FIBREWORKS (article first published : 2007-04-3)

Fibreworks is the title of an exhibition by a group of internationally-renowned South African artists which is on display at the Margate Art Museum from April 4 to mid June.

The public is invited to explore an exhibition that promises to be a rich and varied experience as many of the artists, using predominantly fibres and textiles as their means of expression, freely incorporate a mixed-media approach to materials and techniques.

The exhibition will showcase work hot-off-the-press together with work that has been created over the last decade, thus illustrating new trends and directions. There will be something for everyone!

Well-known quilter and fabric artist Rosalie Dace, one of Fibreworks members, describes the works as displaying, a variety of colours and techniques long used in Africa, (dyeing, printing, embellishment with beads, natural and found objects). Freshness and unpredictability, colour, sensitivity and strength reflect the energy of Africa today.

The exhibition is curated by Craig Huey. More information from Fibreworks Chairman Jeanette Gilks on 031 768 1215.
