COLOUR YOUR WORLD (article first published : 2006-07-7)

The East Coast Radio House and Garden Show at the Durban Exhibition Centre, which runs until July 9, has over 300 exhibitors showcasing home and lifestyle innovations, ideas and inspirations.

The Show sets the standard each year with the hottest tips in lifestyle trends, and is the perfect place to look for novel ideas for your home, office or garden.

One new exhibitor at the show is charity organisation, the Hillcrest AIDS Centre which features innovative and inspiring artworks at their Woza Moya Gallery at this year’s Show. In addition to the artworks, show-goers will be treated to a fascinating effect as the organisation has created their stand from recyclable plastic - including the tables and chairs! This aims to show how useful recyclable plastic is, and to encourage people to become more environmentally friendly.

On the stand there will be a range of beaded animals, bowls, cutlery, salt and pepper cellars as well as jewellery, crochet scarves, shawls and flowers available for purchase. A new product that will be launched is a drawstring bag containing several beaded animals together with a mini paint set to delight children.

An interactive experience can be had at the Woza Moya Gallery as multi-award winning designer Karen Monk-Klijnstra will showcase a range of beautiful clothing in a unique fashion - modelled by mime artists who will also provide entertainment.

The Woza Moya project run by the Hillcrest AIDS Centre, aims to uplift people who are affected by HIV/AIDS, allowing them to regain hope and dignity by empowering them to use their creativity to earn an income. Woza Moya acts as an agent for more than 100 crafters. It offers training in beadwork, wirework, ceramics, fabric-painting, crochet and sewing. The groups constantly design new products, keeping ahead of current trends. The Centre will also present its Christmas Decoration Catalogue, along with samples of the decorations. A team of dedicated volunteers will hand out information packs at the show.

The East Coast Radio House and Garden Show offers more than just a shopping experience for the thousands of people who attend the ten-day event. This year the organizers have sponsored the Hillcrest AIDS Centre at the show to help raise awareness of the plight of people from disadvantaged communities who are affected by AIDS.

East Coast Radio House and Garden Show tickets R38 (R22 students, scholars and senior citizens) and entrance for children under 12 is free. More information on 031 304 9467 or visit www.housegardenshow.co.za
