BENONI FESTIVAL (article first published : 2006-05-15)

Northfield Methodist Church in Benoni, Gauteng, has announced that it will host its first annual art and craft festival from October 26 to November 4, 2006, and invites crafters, artists, woodworkers and designers across South Africa to participate.

Coined ‘NorFest’, the festival will be held at the church premises on the corner of Aerodrome Drive and Hurricane Street, Northmead.

“Hand-crafted goods are becoming ever more popular as gifts and décor items for the home and garden, making this an excellent opportunity for crafters, artists, and designers to exhibit and market their wares,” says Pat Carson, organiser of the event and a member of the Northfield Business Initiative.

“NorFest is ideally timed for those who like to get their Christmas shopping done early, and for this reason we hope to host exhibitors with a wide variety of goods on sale,” she added.

Exhibitors and suppliers are invited to make their applications by May 25, and application forms and information are available on www.northfield.co.za

Exhibitors and suppliers will be interviewed and their products evaluated for quality, professional finish and presentation in June.

“We expect the items on sale to be reasonably priced, hand-crafted and to reflect creativity,” says Carson.

Exhibitors and suppliers will not be required to man their tables for the full duration of the festival, as there will be central pay-points with a number of people being tasked with overseeing the process.

NorFest is intended to be a time of fellowship and fun at the church’s new campus. Apart from the items for sale, there will be entertainment and the Crossings Coffee Shoppe will be open for quick meals. There will also be a buffet-style restaurant for those with larger appetites.
