TOLLGATE QUILTERS’ GUILD (article first published : 2005-06-17)

The Tollgate Quilters Guild will hold Winter Workshops on June 25 from 08h30 to 16h30 at the Frere Road Presbyterian Church Hall.

The Winter Workshops have been devised by members of the Tollgate Quilters’ Guild to enable the public, to experience and learn about Patchwork & Quilting which fall under the following definitions:

Patchwork: A patch is a fabric piece to be sewn into a quilt. Typically, patches are joined to make units, units are joined to make blocks, and blocks are sewn with other components such as sashes & borders to complete the quilt top.

Quilt: A layered and stitched construction, usually comprised of lining, filler and top. The term has come to mean different things now, than in centuries past, incorporating a wide variety of styles, techniques and end results.

This is a way to try out a new craft and hobby without going to a great expense as each workshop will supply participants with materials to finish their project.

Cost per Workshop: One session Workshop R50 pp /Two session Workshop R75 pp. Both fees include all materials. Registration fee for all delegates is R20.

Delegates should remember to book lunch at R20 (Soup and Roll or Salad Roll) with Tea or Coffee. Refreshments such as tea, coffee, cold drinks and muffins are available at morning and afternoon tea-times.

The workshop will be held at the Frere Road Presbyterian Church Hall, Cnr. Evans Road & Kingsley Gardens, Glenwood, Durban. There is safe parking and a car guard.
