BRETT KEBBLE ART AWARDS (article first published : 2004-09-1)

In addition to providing an opportunity to view the cream of South African contemporary art, the annual Brett Kebble Art Awards offer a valuable opportunity to snap up affordable works by up-and-coming artists.

To be selected as a Kebble finalist is to be acknowledged as being highly talented by some of the finest experts in the country. Art lovers are urged to take the opportunity to buy work before their creators shoot to fame.

This year, South Africa’s premier award for visual arts attracted over 2,000 entries countrywide, ranging from four-metre-long torpedoes to wax effigies of George Bush?

KZN artists and crafters among the finalists are: Angela Buckland; Tthafa Mildred Dlamini; Andries Gouws; Langa Magwa; Tamlyn Sheila Martin; Ceaser Mkhize; Zakhele Moses Hlatshwayo; Jabulani Mhlabini; Bheki Myen; Irvin Mlungisi Nkwanyana; Jay Pather; Cameron Platter; Peter Stuart Rippon; Teboho Sifoloko, and Martha Zettler.

The finalists’ works will be exhibited to the public from October 17 to 29 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town. Viewing times are between 09h00 to 21h00 daily. Entrance is free and curators will be available for walkabouts.
