AMAGUGU V - TREASURES EXHIBITION (article first published : 2003-02-16)

Opening at the African Art Centre on February 18 to run until March 7 will be the Amagugu V Treasures Exhibition, the fifth collection made by the Centre of antique unusual Zulu and Xhosa beadwork, wooden utensils.

On show will be a superb and fascinating display of headrests, milkpails, meatplatters, spoons and snuff containers.

Members of the public are invited to attend free lectures on the exhibition. Professor Juliette Armstrong will lecture on ceramics at 12h00 on February 19 and Howard Balcomb will lecture on snuff taking and smoking at 12h00 on February 21.

Hlengiwe Dube will give a walkabout on the entire exhibition at 12h00 on February 26.
