CREATIVE WORKSHOPS (article first published : 2002-09-6)

Maureen Edgcumbe Rudham will host a series of creative workshops over the next couple of months. Morning sessions run from 09h00 until 12h30 with day sessions taking place from 09h00 until 16h00. There will be a “bring and share” vegetarian lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Titled Dare To Be Different, a Creative Sewing Workshop will focus on fresh individual self-expressing by finding the “true you” and introducing colour into the environment by creating individual sewn art such as clothing, accessories, cushions etc. will be held on September 6 and 13 and November 7 and 14 with morning sessions or September 20 and 27 and November 21 and 28 with day sessions. There will also be a weekend session on October 26 and 27. Cost R300. NB: This workshop can only be done after the TO DYE FOR workshop, or tie dye lessons

Healing Through Art is the title of a collage and emotional processing workshop which will focus on manual and kinesiological group exercises as well as creating a basic design in the medium of collage. The aim is to teach participants how to mentally connect with their emotions/feelings through the collage process. Become aware of misperceptions that block health and the ability to attract what is truly desired in life. This workshop introduces the concept of energy healing, the deeper meaning of positive and negative language as well as the difference between right and left brain responses and how to access a right brain response for a right brain task. Day sessions take place on December 10, 11 and 12. Cost R300 There will be a creativity and self-awareness talk morning session on November 23.

Fabric Dying workshops under the fun title of To Dye For will focus on the transformation of white cloth into kaleidoscopic colours. The aim is to introduce the concept that both “old and new” fabrics have value and to witness the transformation of the dying process. Participants will be taught fabric identification, binding techniques, colour and dye processes. Day sessions on September 25 and 26.

To Dye For tie dying lessons are held each Tuesday evening from 18h00 to 20h00 during the school term in the art room at Thomas More College. R30 a lesson includes the dyes.

In order to secure bookings a payment of R100 in advance is required before each workshop, followed by the remainder on the first morning.
