ANDREW WALFORD (article first published : 1999-08-1)

Potter Andrew Walford’s work has always reflected a strong Japanese influence, which is probably why his recent one-man exhibition in Tokyo was so successful. He’s also just returned from attending the Ceramic Millennium Symposium in Amsterdam where ceramists from all over the globe congregated.

Andrew will present his mid-winter Open Day at his home and studio in Shongweni on August 8 from 10h00 to 18h00. Get there early if you want to take advantage of the many bargains on offer but not earlier than 10h00 as there will be no selling before then. Andrew has a bargain table on which he offers what he calls ‘rejects’ but to the layman’s eyes they appear unmarred as the flaw is often virtually undetectable.

The Walford Studio is situated high on a hill overlooking the Shongweni Valley and the Shongweni Dam. The views are superb so take time off to revel in the unspoilt surroundings. Have a cup of tea once you’ve seen the display of pottery and made your purchases, then just relax on the lawns and enjoy the view. Towards lunchtime, delicious breyani will be on sale.

Phone 769-1363 for more details or take the Shongweni exit off the freeway and follow the signs towards Shongweni Station for 8 km to B9.
