FIRE AND FIBRE (article first published : 2000-09-4)

Bayside Gallery at the BAT Centre can always be relied on to produce exhibitions of high quality and interest. The current exhibition is no exhibition. Itís a display of small works (80cm x 80cm) from Fibreworks, a national group of contemporary artists who generally work in fabric and fibre. The works are on show alongside pieces by some of South Africaís foremost ceramic artists.

Among the artists exhibiting fibre works are Odette Tolksdorf, Leonie Malherbe, Jutta Faulds, Margie Garrett and Sally Scott. Ceramic artists include Thijs Nel, Evette Weyers, Charmaine Haines, Lynley Watson, Meshack Mesuka, Clive Sithole and Hennie Meyer. The artists have followed the theme Southern Journeys and the exhibition, which closes on September 23, is well worth a visit.
